Cornelia “Connie” Senner, 88, of West Union and formerly of Hawkeye, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. David R. Nelson officiating. Interment will be at the Hawkeye Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2013, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday.
Cornelia “Connie”, daughter of Jackson Stokes Johns and Cornelia Elizabeth Schuur Johns, was born April 23, 1924, at Sarasota, Florida. She was baptized and confirmed in 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. She attended various schools in the Sarasota area prior to working in department stores in the area. On April 13, 1945, she was united in marriage with Richard W. Senner at St. Petersburg, Florida. Following Richard’s discharge from the military, the couple moved to the family farm in 1946, where they remained until moving to West Union when Richard entered the nursing home in 2001. Connie remained a West Union resident until moving to Maple Crest Manor in Fayette. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and Arnold-Rogers Post #312 Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, sharing family stories and pictures, square dancing, sewing, and gardening. She raised chickens and sold strawberries for extra money, and was always proud of her Dutch heritage.
She is survived by two sons, Rodney (Kathy) Senner of West Union and Kevin (Diana) Senner of Rochester, Minnesota; one daughter, Ann Senner of Nashua; two granddaughters, Alissa (Doug) Dehl and Hilary (Fred) Nuss; three step-grandchildren, Shanon, Brad, and Brian Henry; two great grandchildren, Kaelyn and Kamdyn Nuss; one sister, Roberta Wilkowski of St. Petersburg, Florida; one sister-in-law, Arlene Johns of Pinellas Park, Florida; and two nieces, Karan (Trygve) Mathison and Gloria (Brian) Rainer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard who died November 4, 2002; her parents; one sister, Bertha Spinks; one brother, James Johns; and one sister-in-law, Florence (Senner) Evans.
